Winter Slumber

Winter winter winter - I can appreciate the snow but I cannot wait for warmer weather. I have been doing my best to wander around outside though, and enjoy the wild snowy-ness. I found this wonderful sweater for a dollar yesterday, as well as a few other treasures. I will share them later perhaps.

A friend from school has a wonderful song about winter, called Winter Slumber, and the verses are just beautiful:

There is no blanket for this northern land 

But the comfort of the cold white snow.

The golden hues falling leaves me breathless

Calling for a new glory to shown.

You said you saw pictures in the waves in the water,

Have you ever seen diamonds in the snow?

Praise God from whom all blessings flow;

Praise Him in spite of coldness here below.

As winter slumber makes the earth

Awake in triumph at the call of birth.

The warmth is coming back. 

Cold Comforts

With the snow finally come, I have been going on more walks. Tramping through a foot or more of snow may not seem like everyone's idea of a good time, but I love walking through fresh, untouched snow, and pretending I am the only one in the world. And it has been beautifully sunny the past few days so I am trying to take advantage of it. There is something inspiring about how it transforms a place that you see everyday, giving you a completely new perspective on what you might normally pass by without giving a second glance. 

Traipsing Through Europe

Taking inspiration from One Sheepish Girl, I decided to crochet the edges of my map of Europe that I use to mark my travels. I plan to eventually embroider my path in red thread so it stands out better, and to find a better frame. It was our first real blizzard of the winter, so it was the perfect excuse to stay inside and work on this project. 

Its a Muffin and Tea Kind of Day

I have decided to try my hand at crochet, and have determined that one day I will make an afghan blanket. I am just practicing at the moment, trying to get the hang of it. 

And my mum made muffins. I do not mind winter so much when I can come inside and have muffins and tea. 

The Breath of the Earth

The rain came last night and this morning, and melted most of the snow we had. It has been a very strange winter so far, with extreme rises and drops in temperature. On the plus side, it provided beautiful foggy patches to wander around in. I guess living in the country has its advantages. 

Scarves and Falling Snow

This is my first step into the blogging world, welcome!

So I was inspired by Cat from Take Courage and decided to make a 'snood' from her tutorial. It is really easy, and a lovely tutorial.  I could not find the exact yarn that she used, but got a thick roving yarn on sale, so that is just as good. 

I am really happy with how it turned out. 

And since the snow was falling I thought it best to go out into our woods and snap some pics.
It is very warm, and the bright colours can cheer up a cold day.

It was a lot of fun, but I miss my sister, who is usually my partner-in-crime on such photography adventures. She is away at school, and I am here.
